Yes, when I help not because they asked but because I was moved to.
Just so we are clear, most times people would ask for help. I feel good when I’m sure helping them is me fulfilling a need that otherwise would not have been resolved by that person’s abilities/resources.
But if I find myself helping a lazy joker or someone who I’m not exactly sure is worth the trouble, just know the incentive is Jesus. He is the reason. Him and the verse about “give and it will come back to you. Good measure, shaken together and running the hell over”. Kingdom investment and a function of me finding Jesus early in life.

There’s nothing wrong with helping while expecting good to come out of it. Why do you think that verse exists? I think God created the law of cause and effect, and this has to be one of His assumptions.
He must know humanity is hardly selfless and will always need a motive for every action. Even wanting to be happy from helping someone else is selfish. If you’re doing good because you know it makes you feel good. It is also selfish, just channeled towards good deeds.

Also, the doctrine of you do good you make heaven, that’s cause and effect. That’s another assumption 😂 You do bad, hell fire.
Another assumption! Maybe calling it an assumption isn’t the right word to use. But the same abstract idea that you’d see come up as people explain a law. It started with God.

I can’t remember the word to describe this, but I’ve heard priests talk about this idea in theology. The fact that there’s a level our brains could understand at a time.
So while growing up, we’re taught with this system, something we could make sense of. When we grow in age, we should be able to grow in faith too (of which many of us don’t), and be able to question some of these. Not to prove them wrong, but to have better convictions of why we believe in what we believe in, in as much as we know it may not always be as it was said literally.

My expectation is not normative, but adaptive. I will explain.
My expectations were not necessarily forged by my religious beliefs or that particular verse. Yes, I used it but only because this pragmatic side of me has seen it, tested it and is trusting it.
Many times, I’ve gone out of my way for others, and within a short time, I get back over 10 times more than I gave. No jokes
So, this one is my truth yeah😂 I don’t know what works for others.
The most recent that I did was 5k that I wasn’t entirely okay with parting with. The next day I received 40k and a gift😂 as consolation for the pepper body that was doing me when I transferred that 5k.
